Zagreb is truly a great city.I have a soft spotfor Eastern Europeancities and Zagreb does not disappoint. We walk throughthe capital city ofCroatiaand I need more ears andeyes.Time too, actually.Ilove togoback to thiscity one day and, above all, to see more of the country.Istriabeckons, but this timewe discoverZagreband Plitvice.A lovely first date withan interesting andbeautifulcountry.
Early in the morningwe walk to the localmarket.I love going to local markets, it is a great manner to get to know a city and its people. During the daywe come acrosseven more markets.Flea markets, fruit and vegetablemarkets andantique marketsalternate and I love it.We trythe local speciality ‘štrukle’ and are a fan right away.We walkandwalk anddo not getenough of thebeautiful houses, the greenparks and the amazing food.Eating tips?RestaurantAgava, restaurantBoban andlocal restaurant(Iam in love with theowner)DidovSanarevery fine places to enjoy a good meal. The bestlunchwe had was at thesupercuteeatery ‘Fajn’, which is next to themost beautifulvantage point overZagreb.Upper town, the historic centre, is beautiful and whena bunch of nuns wave at me Imelt.Lower townis to see and be seen.Zagrebis hip. The amount of alternative bars andclubs grow andlocals siton the terraces day in, day out.People watch people and eatlots of food. And drink wine. Lots too. Well, those aremy threehobbies so I am one happy girl.Yes, Zagrebsteals a piece of my heartandis even more amazing than I had thought.
We take thelocal bus toPlitvice Lakes NationalPark.A mustif you ask me, alhough it is quite touristic.I can’t stop staring outsideduring the bus ridefrom Zagreb toPlitvice. While I noticeall thebullet holesin the abandonedhousesI realize that a war ragedhere just over 20 years ago.The tracksare clearly visible.Sunkin mindwe arrive atthe entranceof the national park.Plitviceis a miracle. We walkthe whole trekfrom bottom to topandevery turnopensourmouth even further. This place is more than beautiful. It’s gorgeous. We countsixteenpieces of emerald greenand opalbluelakes withmore than ninety waterfalls.
Tip: visit the parkveryearly in the morning.Itisincredibly busy, whatever seasonyou choose. You will havethe mostchance of quiet moments early in the morning, often the buses full of Chinese tourists arrive in the afternoon.Plitviceis apparentlyhigh on thebucket listofmany Asians. When youwant toadmirethis natural beauty duringsummer, youwill find yourself shufflein rows watching nature and then it’s hard toreallyenjoy her beauty.I havehadquite ahasslewith the kickingfeetof my Chinesestalker in my back andthe umbrella of the Japanese in front ofme. Nevertheless, it is a beautiful place and I’m glad I have been able toseethis piece of nature up close.Did you expectthis kind ofplace inEurope? It felt likeAsiaand someone commented on my Instagram feed that it looks likeSouthAmerica. The falls arebeautiful, you lookstraight throughthe waterand the fact thatmother naturesingle-handedly builtthis piece of art amazes me.Onthis kind ofmomentsI intensely love the world.
